Simon Raybould

Story Maker

Dr. Simon Raybould is on a mission to help people communicate with more impact—and fewer PowerPoint slides. With a career that spans science, theatre and performance that includes fire-eating, Simon brings a rare blend of academic rigour, creativity and real-world insight to every stage he steps on.

A former research scientist with a PhD in medical geo-statistics, Simon spent 24 years investigating the causes of childhood leukaemias and eventually led the UK’s largest social science research unit. But his talents didn’t stop at data. As a playwright, actor and theatre director, he toured across Europe, combining science with storytelling long before it became a trend.

Today, Simon is best known for his StoryMaking System—a practical, proven method that helps professionals find, shape and use their own real-life stories with clarity and intent. This isn’t about performance. It’s about trust, credibility and influence. His storytelling helps people connect, inspire and move others to action—whether in a meeting, a keynote or a virtual pitch.

He’s the author of several books, including Presentation Genius, a high street bestseller, and The Little Big Voice, a guide to speaking with power and presence. His client list spans universities, police forces, tech firms and national sports teams.

Simon’s delivery mixes dry humour with deep expertise, leaving audiences both entertained and empowered. He’s received two standing ovations at the Professional Speaking Association’s national conference, and more than a few “why didn’t anyone teach me this sooner?” reactions.

Because in the end, if you don’t shape the story people tell about you, they’ll make one up. And let’s face it—it probably won’t be as good.
