I’ve spent the day looking at how many of our speakers have taken advantage of the Talent Map, and what their results look like.
The Talent Map is one of our best tools, because it takes the overwhelm out of creating your to do list. Most of you know that you have a lot of work to do to reach the level of success you’re aiming for as a keynote speaker. Knowing what to do first, and how to structure that work can be daunting. The Talent Map shows you exactly what you need to focus on, and gives you the resources and top tips for how to do it. Essentially it spits out a personalised action plan for you as well as sparking ideas and inspiration.
The Talent Map, and all of our resources are based on three pillars:
What I’m seeing when I’m going through all of your Talent Map scores is that every single one of you scores highest for Performance. That tells us you’re comfortable up on stage, and you’ve done a lot of work to develop your style and the quality of your delivery. I’m also seeing that all of you (bar one), score lowest on Profile. Proposition is in the middle, though closer to the Profile score than the Performance score.
In short, while many of you are clearly brilliant on stage, energising audiences and delivering quality content, where you’re struggling more is in finding the opportunities to show off that skill - and get paid for it.
This tells me that in terms of the resources I’m putting together for you, commissioning, writing, developing (be it on the platform, or for our talent conferences), the focus needs to be on helping you develop and strengthen your profile, and your proposition, to drive those inbound leads and to get you on more stages.
This means that we will be leaning into more content on online and content marketing, PR, lead management and conversion optimisation. And on making sure you’re starting from a sound proposition: it’s very hard work selling something that people either don’t want, or don’t know they want.
There’s still a number of you who haven’t filled in your Talent Map, which means you’re missing out on that personalised action plan, and you’re missing out on your voice being heard. The Talent Map is primarily there to help you, but it also shapes our training content; not just the materials that we produce but also the topics for our Peer-to-Peer calls and the trainers we might bring in for the next Talent Conference.
Filling in the Talent Map takes about 10 minutes. You can’t do it wrong. Each of the questions is designed for you to answer it easily, without thinking about it, yet still accurately. If you’ve not done it yet, check it out, you can find the link to it on your personalised dashboard on the platform. It will help you to direct your investment in your own career, in terms of time and money, and it will help us shape the tools you need, when you need them.
