Phil Williams

Phil Williams has been on National Radio for over twenty five years. He began his career on the prestigious BBC Local Radio Trainee Journalist Scheme in 1995. After learning his trade reporting on stories such as the IRA Manchester bombing in 1996, he was poached by BBC Radio One to become a Newsreader and Reporter for Newsbeat. This involved Phil being right at the heart of stories like The Harold Shipman trial, Manchester United's Treble win of 1999 and the rise and rise of Oasis, interviewing both Gallagher brothers several times, including the time Noel demanded £20 to exclusively name the next Oasis album, and Liam stole Phil's microphone mid interview. Phil got it back - He's 6'4" These antics caught the attention of BBC Radio 5 Live who were unhappy with their existing Entertainment News coverage. Phil devised the role of Entertainment Correspondent, which still exists and carried out that role for four years before 5live moved him onto a full time Presenter contract. His 18 years at 5live saw him live on air for the execution of Saddam Hussein, the Manchester Arena bombing as well as sporting events such as The Rugby World Cup, The Grand National, The Open and Cricket's T20 tournament. In 2020, Phil helped to launch a brand new National Radio Station: Times Radio. He created the 7-10pm Evening Show and hosted it for two years. He provided live on air commentary of the January 6th insurrection in Washington. In 2022, Phil renewed his relationship with the BBC joining BBC Radio 2, Europe's most listened to Station. He currently hosts a regular weekly show there and 'Phils in' across the schedule, playing the best new music and modern classics. Phil loves being live, whether that's on air or at Events. He regularly hosts book launches for authors like Jojo Moyes, Lorraine Kelly, Michael Connelly, as well as numerous corporate events.
